PROMPT :
It’s hard to turn a corner nowadays without
coming into contact with some form of advertising - we see it on
billboards, buses, shelters and even on our phones as we listen and
play. Answer one or more of the following questions:
· What mediums or methods of advertising appeal to you and what repels you?
· What does it take to grab your attention or interest?
· What forms of advertising do you ignore?
Hint: Consider multiple forms of
advertising, for example: Images, radio, ads with celebrities,
multimedia ads, humor, sentimentality, shock factor, etc.
Use these instructions to guide you:
- · Plan, write and publish a 300 – 350 word blog
- · Include at least 2 paragraphs
- · Refer to any examples to support your opinion. (Hint: Use pictures if available and suitable)
- · Include at least one word from your word bank and underline it
- As with all your writing, be sure to proofread and revise.
I am a person that is easy to persuade. Anything that is presented in a good way will grasp my attention. I am very fond of a well put together advertisement and the likely hood of me being a possible patron is benevolent. There are methods of advertising that most appeals to me and there are methods that get on my nerves and repels me. I love to try new things and if the way something is presented to me is not genuine then I usually am turned off. Other than that, I am a fairly simple sale.
Many of the factors that make any product or service attractive to me is affordability, convienience, and usefulness. If any product or service that is being presented to me is reasonably priced, fairly accessible, and makes something that I already have or do more efficient, then I am convinced. I will be become a dedicated user or customer in a heartbeat. I am also very moved by inpromtu testamonials and real-life results which is something that cannot be scripted and guarantees authenticity in my book. Im also a fan of advertisement that uses humorous themes and underlying comedy to convey a message to potential consumers. This is the best way to get my attention.
The main things that repel me and annoy me to the uttermost is unsolicited ads it can be as subtle as someone trying to wave you in to a sales kiosk or as blatant as a knock on the door, and also that annoying stranger on your phone. I have experienced them all, and most of the time in these intances the company knows very little about me. An advertisement cannot be successful without doing a bit of research and homework about possible consumers. I am very offended when business offers me a service that implies something about me that is not true or I have not connected with in any way shape or form, and does not relate to me at all. For instance, when this representative of a tanning company launced a device that detects the color of your skin to measure the shading you would like. It was kind of odd to me to have someone insist on pushing that type of product on someone that could not benefit from its service. It would be better suited for someone else, for the case being that I am very much so darker tone and tanning is something I have never needed. This is something that is called poor advertising. It doesnt reach the audience that is sets out for. This could have been presented in a different way that could maybe make it useful such as buying this product for a friend and not for myself.
So you see, advertising can be effective, it just needs to be presented in a good way to really connect with the potential customer and have a useful purpose. I think that if advertisers think about it from this standpoint it would make their efforts more effective and many of us in society would be a lot more prone to persuasion and emptying our pocketbooks.
